Equity in poker

Equity is the share of the pot a hand or range expects to win against another hand or range.

Why it matters

Equity is the baseline for calls, value bets, bluffs, and semi-bluffs, but it must be adjusted for future action.

Example

A flush draw may have strong raw equity on the flop, but position and stack depth decide how much of that equity it can realize.

Trainer cue

Estimate raw equity, then ask whether the hand can reach showdown or profit from fold equity.
